My first introduction to Anne was when I was 11 years old. It was the summer of 1968, and I was spending my summer with my cousin in New Hampshire, at an old farmhouse, as a live-in babysitter. My escape at the end of the day was to read. I had my book, Anne of Green Gables, and I read it voraciously!
Being very shy myself, I envied Anne for her personality, and I adored her. I wanted to BE Anne!! In the following years, I read the rest of the books, but that first one stayed with me my whole life. I married, had twin girls, and one of them has the middle name of Anne. I always wanted to visit PEI, but life did not grant that wish. I divorced, continued raising my girls, and it wasn't until I remarried in 2017 that my new husband said "We're going to PEI for our honeymoon!"
He had watched the Anne videos with me, and had fallen in love with the countryside. July of 2017, we made the drive from Massachusetts to PEI, and it was everything I had dreamed of, and more. We visited the museum, Green Gables, and the "White Sands Hotel" (we tried to book a room, but it was full). We went to see Anne of Green Gables, the Musical, and it was wonderful!
I took hundreds of pictures, and have attached just a few. I would go back to PEI in a heartbeat, and hopefully, when the pandemic is a distant memory, that will happen.
