Anne Lovers Around The World! Part 9: Rhonda Bryerton

I’m not even sure where to start...maybe with my Instagram connection.  I teach online classes related to the Anne series of books.  Your museum and store are highlighted often in my classes.  I have students from all over the world who take my classes because, as you know, they LOVE Anne and want to visit PEI so badly.  The other day in class a student showed us an Anne doll her mother ordered for her and we discovered that she had ordered it from your store!!  I told her she got the “real thing”!!  If my learners ever get to visit PEI they will all be coming to see you!

My other connections to Anne...

  1. I first fell in love with Anne when I was a young teen living in my home province of MB through the 1985 Megan Follows  movies and then after this I read the books and LOVED LMM so much more.  In 2010 I took a trip to PEI with my mom, sister, and daughter, I fell in love with it of course, and several years after that started looking at properties for fun.  Long story short, I bought a property down the road from your museum....15 Walter Adams Road, right across from Seaview Community Hall.  It’s the yellow house with the yellow cottage.

I was told by some elderly neighbors that the cottage used to be the stable for the one room schoolhouse next door...the water pump spout for the school is still there!!!  Would it have been Seaview School???  And then I learned that Fredericka Campbell was a teacher at Seaview School for a short time...wow!!!

Ok, there’s more!!  In 2016 I was at Robert’s Auction in Kensington and had just landed a lobster pot and an antique Mennonite quilt, and I was feeling pretty good.  Late into the auction a boat captain from San Francisco who was visiting family in Kensington that summer, walked through the door, saw me, walked straight to the back of the auction and waited for a moment to strike up a conversation with me. Long story short again...we got married 5 months later, we are living in California right now, and will be transitioning to live in PEI in a year!!!  My sister is living in the yellow house on Walter Adams Road right now, and my husbands family all lives in PEI too!!!  We can hardly wait!!

And one last AMAZING connection... Through Instagram I’ve become friends with Bernadette and Denise of Ingleside!!  And Bernadette told me about another Mennonite lady from Manitoba who she thought I would get along with...Loralee Kraker....turns out we are LONG LOST SECOND COUSINS!!!  I’m not making this up!!!!!  We are planning some kind of reunion of some kind in PEI as soon as travel there is allowed.  So as you can see, because of Anne, my life has been transformed!!  A prairie girl visits the Island, buys the house of her dreams close to the Lake of Shining Waters, is reunited with her long lost kindred spirit cousin who loves Anne too, AND meets the man of her dreams(a rugged boat captain). We hope to walk into those PEI sunsets together as our story continues!!!!

I believe I was about 10 or 11 years old when I first read Anne of Green Gables. This was in Gdansk, Poland, where I was born. (I now live in the UK.) I remember being completely captivated by Anne Shirley – by her imagination, her poetic nature, her connection to nature and her gratitude – despite (or because?) the hardships of her earlier life. Most of all, though, it was her striving to be kind and striving to understand others that I think captured my soul.

a retired Special Education Teacher living in Athens, TN.  I first fell in love with Anne’s free spirit watching the PBS mini series Anne of Green Gables.  I taped it and shared the story with many.  One of the English teachers I taught with introduced the collection of books to his class.
