I believe I was about 10 or 11 years old when I first read Anne of Green Gables. This was in Gdansk, Poland, where I was born. (I now live in the UK.) I remember being completely captivated by Anne Shirley – by her imagination, her poetic nature, her connection to nature and her gratitude – despite (or because?) the hardships of her earlier life. Most of all, though, it was her striving to be kind and striving to understand others that I think captured my soul.
a retired Special Education Teacher living in Athens, TN. I first fell in love with Anne’s free spirit watching the PBS mini series Anne of Green Gables. I taped it and shared the story with many. One of the English teachers I taught with introduced the collection of books to his class.
Anne is also often the subject of my other creative activities, like knitting, cross stitching, embroidery. I collect souvenirs connected with her: dolls, books, first Polish editions. When I hear the words„Anne of Green Gables”my heart beats faster! Greetings from Poland!
Anne taught me so much as a child, and continues to inspire me in my life today. She was different, but she didn’t let the views and opinions of others stop her from being herself. She helped teach me how to love myself, quirks and all. That’s such an important lesson for young people to learn, as well as adults!
I was told by some elderly neighbors that the cottage used to be the stable for the one room schoolhouse next door...the water pump spout for the school is still there!!! Would it have been Seaview School??? And then I learned that Fredericka Campbell was a teacher at Seaview School for a short time...wow!!!
There seemed to be something familiar in the girl on the front cover, with her freckles, red plaits and private smile. I immediately felt that I knew her, which was confirmed when I started reading. It was the humour that I loved first; Anne's awkwardness and scatterbrained ways were so much like my own in a way I hadn't known in a fictional character before.
I fell in love with the Anne of Green Gables book series, and the 1985 Kevin Sullivan movie series. I was 16 when I first discovered the Anne of Green Gables movies series. I was in a foster home at the time. I was a young mother, my daughter was 4 months old.
My name is Jana Taifour, and I usually call myself Anne when I’m deep in thought or soaring through my imagination or when I’m out in nature. I’m Syrian Canadian living in Mississauga, ON. I was a reader from a very young age , and this helped me improve my imagination and live in a world of dreams and daydreaming just like Anne
